Whether you’re new to gardening or have well-practiced green fingers, the great thing about gardening and horticulture is that there’s always something to learn. And an inspiring teacher will make that learning easy and enjoyable.

A trained teacher, David has taught at the nation’s foremost establishments for horticultural training, including Writtle, Sparsholt, Kingston Maurward and Northop colleges. He has taught a wide range range of subjects from botany, science and ecology to plant propagation, garden design, floristry and plant identification, and at City & Guilds through to Degree level.

Vocational teacher

By maintaining engagement with his audience and referring to real life examples of gardening and growing, David makes his subject easy to understand and remember. He aims to demystify the botany and science behind gardening, a knowledge of which is essential for any good gardener. His clear demonstrations of practical techniques make it simple to gain useful skills for a lifetime of growing, as the group above found at a BBC Gardeners’ World masterclass at Farley Hill Place Gardens, near Reading.

He also gives talks and practical demonstrations to gardening groups throughout the UK, as well as at gardening events and as part of itineraries on board cruise ships. In addition David hosts a wide range of basic skills courses and masterclasses to suit gardeners of all abilities. These can also be tailored as staff events, like the Mothers’ Day bouquet making shown here, or to create team-building exercises.

“David is an excellent teacher and I would thoroughly recommend any of his courses. I learnt so much and my New Year’s resolution is not to use my secateurs for anything other than pruning, so will use scissors to open compost bags!”

“I have participated in two of David’s Masterclasses and hope to do so again.  His disciplined approach to these intensive sessions is a solid stepping stone to get to grips with the subject of the class, but maybe even more importantly he conveys his passion for horticulture and passes on invaluable tips along the way. Fun, entertaining and worthwhile!”
